Summary

So far I have two SB-600s and I love them. The I-TTL flash works beautifully, and for the portraits/sports work I do it has plenty of light. I do wish the build would be a little better, I accidently dropped it about 5 feet onto a wooden floor and broke the bulb and another part on the inside. The modes are easy to set on the flash (Manual, I-TTL, TTL) and flash exposure comp is very easy to set as well. The readouts are large and easy to read.

Strength

Easy to use, Wireless slave mode is available, great battery life. Diffusion hood for the closeup mode does a great job in doing bounce flash.

Weakness

A little stronger build would be nice

Summary

This is a very good flash unit. And it packs a wallop, for such a small and compact flash (guide # 96). I find the user menu to be very easy to negotiate. Unless you're in need of TTL wireless flash, you probably won't need the SB-800. The zoom head works automatically with the proper lenses, or manually with any lenses. I find the TTL metering to be very accurate. It also has a 14mm diffuser panel built into it, which can be quite convenient. When discharged at full power, it recycles very quickly, and with lithium batteries, it recycles almost immediately. I highly recommend it.

Strength

Small, compact, lightweight, and very well built. It also has a very sturdy metal hot shoe attachment.

Weakness

In all honesty, I can't think of any. Well, perhaps a pull-out bounce card, like on the SB-800.
