Product Description

The FL-36 Electronic-Flash is specifically designed for Digital with an accurate 1/8 step illumination control to provide the precision required by digital cameras, while minimizing illumination reduction. The built-in wide-angle diffuser panel will allow the flash to provide even illumination with wide angle lenses like the new Zuiko Digital 14mm-45mm zoom. The inclusion of a lockable bounce and swivel mechanism offers a variety of bounce photography options including left-right, as well as top-bottom in addition to a compact zoom Head to accommodate lenses from wide angle to telephoto.

Summary

Nice piece of equipment. It completely enhanced my E-500 and is built with the 4/3 system in mind. Really bright and has a great through. I shot from a balcony to a stage 30-40 feet away at 150mm and it lit really well. Really works well in darker shots. The infrared is way better than the strobing of the built in flash. Makes the camera focus faster. I give it a five because it delivers on what it promises.

Strength

Talks directly to the camera. Bright, lots of bounce options due to vertical and horizontel swivel. Really customizable and pretty lightweight.

Weakness

Fully charged, recycle time is anywhere from 2-6 seconds depending on how you are bouncing. No port for dedicated power pack. You have to by the FL-50 for that.

Summary

Great flash for the money, not to many flashes can match it for features and performance at this price. Has a bit of a learning curve, mostly for the features and settings. Once you learn it you will love it.

Strength

Lot's of features and options, Easy to use and versitile after learning how too. Great build quality.

Weakness

Slow recycle time when fully fired, about 5-6 seconds. Power button is anoying and sometimes difficult to turn on. I find it tends to over expose a wee bit so i set it at -0.3 exposure compensation. Read the manual several times !!!!!
