The Sentra is offered in four models this year: the XE, GXE, SE, and the limited production Sentra CA (Clean Air). This last model is certified in California as a Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle (SULEV). All Sentras include dual airbags, front and rear crumple zones, and child safety seat anchors. The XE, GXE, and CA models are powered by a 1.8L four-cylinder engine, while the SE comes standard with a 145-hp, DOHC 2.0L four-cylinder. A four-speed automatic transmission, which is standard on the CA model, is available at an extra cost on all other models. Two new exterior colors are available for this year: Inferno and Out of the Blue. Optional features include a power sunroof, a 6-disc in-dash CD changer, and side-impact airbags.

Summary
I just ended up with this car one day. Yes, I know how that sounds - but that's just how it happened. My husband and I, both proud Jetta owners, suddenly faced a dilemma one Sunday morning when my husband's 1996 Jetta wouldn't start. "I'll just go...
Strength
Great visibility, good gas mileage, great cup holder
Weakness
Wipers not ideal, trunk light?
Bottom Line
I feel like I got a great car with a good number of nice features!
The Nissan Sentra is a good car. It has gotten tons of awards for its value, performance, etc. My suggestion is buy it high-end instead of purchasing a low-end Altima or Jetta. The SE with the performance package has all the features you won't find...
Strength
Nice features, 16 inch tire option!, 145 horsepower for a compact.
Weakness
lousy colors, definitely must be highend to be worth it.

Summary
The updates located at bottom of review. (Long term review)
The 2000/2001 Nissan Sentra is finally redesigned! It is no longer the econo-box like it's older generations. While the older generations of Sentra SE and SE-Rs are powerful...
Strength
Peppy, Not-so-econo looking interior, Sleek exterior, Great bang for the bucks
Weakness
Doors and center stack rattles (7000 miles), false sense of straightness
Bottom Line
I recomend it for people with a small budget who are looking for something fast and powerful and lots of features.
There are many reasons to buy this car over competitors. Considering it is a Japanese import, it has reliability. A major competitor in the compact car class is the Honda Civic. Originally, this was my car of choice, until...
Strength
Sporty Package, 16" alloys, price, 148 horsepower
Weakness
Steering is stiff, exterior, Aftermarket accessories hard to find
Bottom Line
It's reliable, sporty, fuel efficient, and it fits more budgets.
I recently traded in a full size conversion van for a 2001 Nissan Sentra. When I first got in the Sentra for a test drive I felt very low to the ground. The salesperson said I was used to the big van and that most everything would seem low. However,...
Strength
Quick engine, smooth shifting, good value, warranty.
Weakness
Noisy engine, rear seat room.
Bottom Line
Although a compact, this car still has many nice features, a powerful engine and nice styling for a good price.
My fiancee and I lease a 98 626 and the lease is almost up, so we went car shopping for a new one to replace it. The 626 has been bulletproof, but it has a lot of rattles and squeaks, so we decided on getting a new car to replace it. We've looked at a...
Strength
Performance, handling, braking, value, features
Weakness
Plasticky interior, tight back seat, ABS impossible to find
Bottom Line
A good buy, especially for the performance it has. Very good features at a great price, though ABS is very rare. Definitely check it out if you're shopping for compacts.
I've had my 2001 Sentra GXE for just over a year now (I bought it in October of 2000, right when the new model year came out.) I spent a lot of time researching car after car, comparing price, features, warantee, mileage, power, etc. I looked at...
Strength
Great all around car, especially for the price paid
Weakness
Tiny back seat, Cup holders block CD Changer
Bottom Line
The Sentra, in my opinion, is the best car offered in its class. I would definitely buy one again
I researched every vehicle in this compact (and subcompact) class and the Sentra SE was by far the best value. The selling point for me were the 4 wheel disk brakes which you cannot find on any other vehicle in this class (i.e., Civic, Corolla, Protege,...
Nissan has needed a redesign of the Sentra since 1997, that model was economical and affordable but difficult to look at. Along comes the fresh looking Sentra for 2000 and not a minute too soon. However, Nissan has taken that car a...
Strength
Looks Sporty, Low Emissions, Low Price
Weakness
Funky Transmission
Bottom Line
The perfect combination of electric car responsibility combined with normal, everyday drivability and comfort.
