2007 Toyota Tundra

Product Description

Although the current Tundra enjoys brisk sales due to its refined ride and easy-to-drive demeanor, Toyota knows that in order to compete with the big boys it needs a bigger truck. The next-generation Tundra will be a full-size truck in every respect, with a larger V8 power plant and comparable dimensions to Detroit's biggest and best. The FTX concept truck shown at the 2004 Detroit Auto Show was a preview of what Toyota has in mind. Its outlandish size and styling may get toned down a bit for the production truck, but there's no doubt who Toyota is targeting. In fact, Toyota is so intent on building a credible truck, it's constructing an all-new plant in San Antonio, Texas, to build it.

Does Toyota FINALLY Get Tundra Right? Or Is It "Decent Truck, FAR Too Late"???

Summary

Toyota sure has been generating a lot of media buzz for itself with its new Tundra pickups, hasn't it? Like most P.R.-firm generated corporate spin though, an awful lot of that buzz is an awful lot of bovine manure. In my opinion, the Tundra is a...

Strength

Full-size bed, competent and smooth drivetrains

Weakness

Too big, too fat, too ponderous, too expensive, yet unavailable in 3/4 and 1-ton flavors

Bottom Line

10 years ago, I might have liked this Toyota Tundra. In 2007, it's overrated and the silliest damn thing on round rubber. Read on to see why...

Summary

Last week I purchased a new Ford F-150 pickup truck. Prior to buying, I test-drove many full-sized pickup and compact pickups, gradually shifting my purchase priorities from that of a truck that would get only occasional use, to a truck that would...

Strength

Great V6 and 5sp automatic, quiet ride, finally REALLY full sized.

Weakness

Steering a bit numb, not as car-like as the 06.

Bottom Line

The Tundra is now a no-excuses work truck, but it lost the easy-going "large midsize" Camry-truck personality of the old model. Definitely a "must drive".

Summary

I was in the market for an upscale pickup. I wanted power, quiet and heated leather seats. The pickup I purchased has all that and then some. GMC/Chevy was my first choice and Toyota my second choice. Ford was not considered as it is too slow and the...

Strength

Silky power, quiet ride and a great list of unique features

Weakness

Ride is too firm for my liking and should be three inches lower.

Bottom Line

You will be happy with this pickup if you can get past the teasing by your "Ford-Chevy fan" friends. I am liking this truck more and more.

Summary

I'll start off by saying that I didn't fall in love with this truck enough to run out and buy it. I'm reviewing the truck based strictly on a couple of test drives and comparing it my experiences with my late-model Silverado, the 07 Silverado, and the...

Strength

BIG power and torque numbers. First 6-Speed Automatic truck transmission in the industry.

Weakness

Lacks overall refinement and solid feel. Mediocre suspension, steering, and styling.

Bottom Line

Toyota has introduced a new flavor of a full sized truck. Where it lacks refinement, it makes up with power. Give one a spin and see for yourself.

Summary

OVERVIEW Toyota has been trying to get a share of the domestic truck market for years. The previous Tundra was only an 8/10ths version of a full size truck and while it sold moderately well, it never seriously challenged the Ford/GM/Dodge trucks...

Strength

amazing engine and powertrain, roomy interior, toyota quality/reliability

Weakness

average exterior design

Bottom Line

A true full size competitor, the Tundra will certainly hold its own against US competition. Excellent powertrain and quality in a roomy and comfortable package.

Summary

I read all these reviews and only found one to be inaccurate. A guy who says the truck is ten years behind and would have been a good truck for 1997. His post should be taken down. It isn't accurate at all. I drove Chevy's 2500, I drove the Ford F-150...

Strength

Power, reliability, Lexus like ride, beautiful looking. Slightly better fuel economy than other full size

Weakness

None.

Bottom Line

It's a very attractive, powerful, reliable truck. It has the best turning radius of any pickup I've ever driven. The engine is an engineering masterpiece, tranny is wonderful.

Summary

Really was looking at the GMC Sierra, which is much improved for 2007 - until the new Tundra arrived! Drove both (several times) and actually drove the GMC over to the Toyota lot for a side-by-side. As much as I preferred the Sierra's exterior, the...

Our good opinion of Tundras went up a notch after driving our new '07 2x4, and we're glad we chose it over the smaller previous Tundra. It's a dream to drive on long trips and is very quiet and comfortable, even when hauling. The audio 6 CD changer was...
