Product Description

Given the success of Canon's highly acclaimed G Series, it's no surprise that ambitious photographers have been eagerly anticipating the next model in its evolution. The wait has paid off handsomely with the introduction of the PowerShot G9. In image quality and functionality, the G9 stands above the competition with 12.1 megapixels of resolution, a 6x optical zoom with Optical Image Stabilizer, and RAW mode for the ultimate in creative control. Sophisticated design and high-quality construction complement the technology and make the G9 a camera to be reckoned with.

The Canon G9 is the best compact digital camera available, but not quite perfect.

Summary

Introduction My Canon A620 digital camera has been a faithful backup camera for over a year now. It does pretty much everything I ask of it and it's made me a big fan of Canon's A-series cameras. The next step up from this series of camera is...

Strength

Durable construction, great feature set, good controls, sharp lens across the zoom range.

Weakness

Slightly above average noise at all ISO settings, somewhat expensive.

Bottom Line

I can recommend the Canon G9 for its rugged build, sharp lens, and good controls. Image noise, handling, and price are all just a little less than desirable.
