Price Paid:
$180.00
from cash converters Summary: Still learning about the product, I know I paid too much given it's age and the fact that I bought it in a retails store , But......
Had a much smaller Yamaha Dsp receiver. Very nice but not near the power.
For what I paid, I am blown away by the quality and features in the receiver.
I know that the unit is several years old. and probably lacks features that are available today, but for $ 180.00 Tax in???
Try replacing it for something new at 3x the price, Bet you can't.
I will use this with no thought of changing until it gives out on me.
Or I all of a sudden decide money is no object and decide to blow big bucks on a current model. (not likely) Some old pieces of audio equipment are like vintage guitars, they just sound too good to pass up!Q Strengths: Power
Tonal Quality
Value for Price paid.
Appearance and Functionality
Did I mention Power +++++++++++++++++
Weaknesses: NONE AT $ 180.00

from given to me Summary: My boss actuall y gave me this unit for free as DOA, it would poer on and then quickly power off. I popped the hood and noticed the outputs fot the center channel were toast, removed them and ordered new ones. It operates flawlessly and sounds incredible! lots of power and very clean sounding. I owned a RX-V690 beofore this one and have been really impressed with yamaha's equpiment after owning probably 20 receivers. This thing is a powerhouse, if you find one for even 400 bucks BUY IT! Quality of components is key here. Inside is every attention to detail and a massive transformer. S-vid switching and bananna jacks for ALL spkrs is a plus too. HIGHLY RECOMMEND YAMAHA. Strengths: POWER, POWER , POWER! S vid switching, great sound, easy to use, looks awsome. Weaknesses: LCD driven display kinda sucks if you are off-axis. other than that, nothing. from Circuit City Summary: I have been reading the reviews about a product that I already have and love. I have cranked this unit up do much over the years it is like an old friend. I can rock the neighborhood anytime I want to. I purchased it with a powered Yamaha Sub, center and surround fronts and rears. These little Yamahas sound better than the compable BOSE at the time and were about $200 cheaper. The only weakness this unit ever had was the Prologic Only. But you can upgrade it now!!! DTS Here we come.. Strengths: It's built like a tank and just about as heavy..easy front panel always loved the simple Yamaha design. Weaknesses: PRO-Logic only, but now you can upgrade it. This link www.msbtech.com/Catalog/FAQ/5-1.htm
Tells you how. Now we can have our cake and eat them too.
Remote- Way too much on it, Never needed half the stuff, and a button broke early on but who cares really... Similar Products Used: None, I love my Yamaha

from from friend Summary: I have another receiver the sony STR-D715, both cost me $100 used, so which one do I use as my main receiver.. The yamaha. Much improved sound, it sounds much fuller than the sony. It lacks some of the bells and whistles, like not being able to adjust the tone with the remote, but the volume control on the remote is great. This is a great receiver, I feel like I got a great deal on it and I am trying to hold out from buying a dolby digital.
I should mention that this receiver can take low impedances, my cerwin vega fronts are only 4 ohms a piece. My rears are also 4 ohms and I have had no trouble with over heating what so ever Strengths: Great sound, plenty of power Weaknesses: can't adjust treble and bass with remote Similar Products Used: Sony STR-D715
